To register for an account, users must go to Rustigram.com to sign up. This is until our server is approved for listing in the directory, but even after that happens, this is still the easiest way.

Even if you already have another account for a Pixelfed instance on another server, you still need to register here to agree to our server rules. There is an option to migrate an account between servers. We will make a guide for this soon.

Once you have registered, to sign in with the Pixelfed app, you will need to type in Rustigram.com as the server name in the app as we arent listed in the directory yet. Like this:

• organize this info site with additional how to guides
• finish process requirements for listing in the Pixelfed server directory
• continue bug hunting and additional development requirements to support stories and video
• add language and accessibility features

As of today registration is open and each member has 1GB of space for media.

Stories and Videos are disabled until later development – more on this coming soon

Instagram import is disabled as it is a Pixelfed feature that is still pretty unreliable for most users.

At some point, we will have an app however this will be a future thing. until then, there is the generic Pixelfed app available in the app store or play store.

The Fediverse can seem a bit daunting or intimidating at first because it’s a bit more technical. There are many guides available. Again this is part of what using independent and open source vs someone harvesting your information entails.

Some notes:

– This is a volunteer project maintained by a very small number of people who have limited experience at this specific thing. This is a DIY project, born out of the need for an independent, non-commercial, privacy centric, social network. No selling your information, no BS algorithms, zero tolerance for any kind of hate speech, this space is different. Most of the admin staff are hard left, queer, gender nonconforming, neurodivergent humans who are very tired of *all of this*.

– There will be issues as we move forward. We will attend to them as quickly as possible, within the scope of our resources. This is part of the trade off in avoiding the mainstream social networks.

4. No explicit content, such as pornography or graphic violence. Mark any mature content as sensitive using the platform’s content warning features
5. Avoid posting content that is likely to incite or glorify violence
6. Avoid spamming, including excessive posting or sharing of irrelevant content
7. Do not engage in manipulative practices to inflate engagement or follower counts
8. Only post content that you have the right to share. Respect the intellectual property rights of others
9. Do not share copyrighted material without authorization or proper attribution
10. Users must comply with local and international laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content. Prohibited content includes anything related to illegal activities or substances
11. Creating accounts for the purpose of impersonating others is prohibited
12. Do not share intentionally false or misleading information
13. This is a noncommercial space. Businesses, organizations, and creators are welcome to talk about what they are doing, but advertising and other monetization is not welcome here.

Rustigram is a Pixelfed server for users, creators, organizations, and causes in the rustbelt, related to the rustbelt, or rustbelt adjacent. This server operates on 100% green energy.

Pixelfed is an image sharing platform, an ethical alternative to centralized platforms that is part of the Fediverse. The Fediverse is
